讲座内容:

语言教师目前面临的一个共同困境是:他们的语法知识的训练不适应其工作的需求。一个严重的后果是,语言教师不能使语言学习者在学习目标语结构时不仅知其然并知其所以然。

那么,语言教师需要怎样的语法知识,又如何有效地运用其语法知识实施语法教学呢?这个演讲呼吁,语言教师必须具备吸收各种语法理论框架内汉语语法研究的最新成果并将其转化为教学语法和教学步骤的能力。在肯定各种理论框架贡献的同时,演讲人认为一种认知-功能的语法训练最适合语言教师的需要并最易于转化为教学语法和教学步骤。主要的原因在于:不同于以结构的描写和转换为研究目标的语法理论,诸如结构主义语法和形式句法理论,认知-功能语法关注于语言形式和其功能之间的对接。即它不仅告诉学习者一个语言形式是怎样的,更为学习者提供该形式语义和语用功能的解释;它不在意语言形式之间的转换,而关注每一形式特有的语用功能。而如何得体地使用语言形式去表达语义正是语言学习之关键。这个演讲还以大量的实例说明如何运用认知-功能语法的研究成果以实施有效的语言教学。


主讲人简介:

Lening Liu was born and raised in Xi’an City of China. He was sent to the countryside during the Cultural Revolution and labored in rice field for three years. In 1978, he passed the college entry examination when China re-installed its higher education and enrolled himself in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at the Shanxi Normal University. He received BA in Chinese in 1982 and MA in History of Chinese in 1985. After teaching Chinese for 5 years in China he attended the University of Florida in United States and studied Linguistics under the guidance of Prof. Chauncey Chu. He received PhD in Linguistics in 1996 and joined faculty at Columbia University in the same year. Now, he is Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia and the director of its Chinese Language Program, Confucius Institute and The Certificate Program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Lening Liu’s research interests are in the fields of Chinese syntax, discourse grammar and Chinese language pedagogy. He is the author of <Approaching China>, <A Course on Cross-Culture Communication> and a number of journal articles. He is also a member of Standing Committee of The International Society of Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language and an editor of The Journal of International Chinese Education.
